a5c7b9f00b Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills to help Taggart and Rosewood investigate Chief Bogomil's near-fatal shooting and the series of "alphabet crimes" associated with it. Detroit cop Axel Foley is watching the news on TV when the reporter tells a story that Axel's friend, Beverly Hills police Captain Andrew Bogomil, has been shot by a tall woman. Axel heads out to Beverly Hills to visit Bogomil in the hospital, and this is where Axel is reunited with Bogomil's daughter Jan Bogomil. Axel is also reunited with Detective Billy Rosewood and Sergeant John Taggart. Billy and Taggart decide to let Axel help them find the woman who tried to kill Bogomil, even though abusive police chief Harold Lutz has been deliberately trying to find a reason to fire Billy and Taggart. Axel, Billy, and Taggart soon discover that the alphabet robberies, a series of robberies that have been going on in the area, are masterminded by weapons kingpin Maxwell Dent, and Dent had sent his fiancee Karla Fry to try to kill Bogomil because Bogomil had been after Dent. With this information, Axel, Billy, and Taggart try to find Dent and Karla. Continuing my plan to watch every Eddie Murphy movie in order, I come to the first sequel of his career Beverly Hills Cop 2

Plot In A Paragraph: Alex Foley (Murphy) returns to Beverly Hills to help track down the Alphabet Bandit.

Much more action orientated than its predecessor, sadly they forgot to add the jokes. Surprising since Murphy has a writing credit. This sequel could have been wrote when Sly Stallone was still attached to the first movie. There are amusingly a few nods to him in this movie.

Whilst entertaining and fun enough, my main problem with this movie is Murphy is really annoying at times. This is Foley from the first movie speeded up x 10, with the volume at maximum!! He is an outright jerk at times. All he seems to do is shout at people (the construction workers, the secretary at the gun club, the door man at the strip club, the secretary at the playboy mansion) to get his own way. In the first movie, Murphy loudly played the race card to get a room at an exclusive Beverly Hills hotel, this time, he cons some construction, whose foreman probably lost his job over it. Considering he gave that address to the bad guys at the gun club, the owners were lucky it was not shot up!! The stupid scene with the secretary and the bag of vitamins, his loud under cover character, the stupid Johnny Whishbone,

I need to add, all these worked for me back in the day, and I thought they were funny!! Less so 30 years later. Amazingly Murphy isn't the most annoying person in this movie!! That goes to Gilbert Gottfied!! Man do I hate that guy!! He is one irritating dude!!

Of the other cast Reinhold and Ashton are clearly having fun and I don't think Bridgette Nielsen has looked hotter in a movie, she is the most interesting villain in this movie, whilst Juergen Prochnow is weak, Dean Stockwell (Who I loveAl in Quantum Leap) does not make a convincing bad guy either.

An entertaining enough action movie, but not a great sequel to a classic movie

Audiences turned out in drovesBeverly Hills Cop 2 grossed $158 million at the domestic box office (only Fatal Attraction and 3 Men & A Baby grossed more) to finish 1987 the 3rd highest grossing movie of the year. I loved Beverly Hills Cop and I personally think that it's one of Eddie Murphy's best films. It's funny, well-written, and exciting. After seeing the first one, I really couldn't wait to sit down and watch the sequel. I figured it wouldn't begreatthe first was, but I still thought it would be a fun sequel that would provide more entertainment for those who enjoyed the first movie. Now while Beverly Hills Cop II is far from terrible, it's unfortunately a run of the mill sequel that does absolutely nothing new and was obviously just made for money. The plot is almost exactly identical to the first one and this one really pulls no punches. Now I wouldn't have had such a problem with that if this film would've bothered to amp itself up some more. But, Beverly Hills Cop II is actually tamer than the first film and that takes some of the fun out of it. The two new characters were really unnecessary and the film would've been better off without them. But one of the biggest problems I had with the film is that it feltif the script had a laugh of laughs to it. Still, BHC II is entertaining enough to recommenda rental, just don't expect it to be anywheregoodthe first film. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Eddie Murphy has just paid himself a heartfelt compliment. Cut for cut, his Beverly Hills Cop II is almost a perfect match for the wildly successful "Beverly Hills Cop I," with only the crimes and the shticks changed to protect fans of the original. It could have been written by a witty computer. That's not all bad, given the quality of the model. [20 May 1987, p.C13]
